Simulation of the human lumbar spine during stooping and squatting using a forward kinematics model

چکیده
Working with human subjects to measure internal loadings of lumbar spine is difficult. Numerical modeling makes it possible to study response of spine to a variety of loading conditions. This paper reports the development of a rigid body model of spine using a forward kinematics approach. The model consists of accurate CAD representations of vertebrae interconnected by intervertebral discs providing six degrees of freedom at each joint. The vertebrae are articulated using Virtual Muscles controlled by PID controllers individually. The forward kinematics approach resolves the redundancy issues associated with other lumbar spine models which utilize inverse kinematics. The proposed model predicted similar trend for trunk rotations, compression forces and moments as described in the literature. The comparison between the proposed model and predictions from existing dynamic models showed good agreement.

متن کاملDiffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis Involving Cervical and Lumbar Spine Presenting with Dysphagia: A Case Report
Introduction: Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH) is a very rare cause of dysphagia when it occurs in the cervical spine. It can also affect the lumbar region where it causes deformity. Case Report: In this article, a rare case of Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis involving both the cervical and lumbar spine, presenting with dysphagia and spinal stiffness leading to a stoopin...

متن کاملKinematics of the Trunk and the Spine during Unrestricted and Restricted Squats – a Preliminary Analysis
The aim of the study was the assessment and comparison of trunk kinematics during restricted (knee not beyond toes) and unrestricted squats. Eight repetitions of restricted and unrestricted squats with 0, 25% and 50% bodyweight loading using a barbell were assessed with a 12 camera motion analysis system. A trunk marker set was developed and applied that allowed the measurement of the 3D kinema...
متن کاملPronus angina (angina pectoris induced by stooping or crouching). A proposed mechanism.
Patients with severe coronary artery disease (CAD) sometimes complain of chest pressure upon crouching or bending-forward (pronus angina). The factors that trigger pronus angina are not clear. We therefore investigated 28 patients with CAD and 26 normal subjects in the sitting, knee-chest, stooping, and squatting positions. Systolic and diastolic blood pressures were found to increase by 13.5 a...
